Zen treatment
Shall I take a coffee break or a spa break today? Spa’ing
is no longer considered a luxury in this town of glitz and glamour.
Skin is in and with a profusion of day spas popping up around
town as readily as Starbucks, we have no excuse to be facially
flawed. Unfortunately, Hollywood is no stranger to pretty facades
filled with a lot of fluff and little substance, and the spa
world is no exception.
Thankfully, there are a few diamonds within the sea of duds;
Kinara Spa in West Hollywood is one of the most faceted and sparkling.
Interweaving age-old herbal therapies with innovative cosmetic

Co-owner and renowned facialist Olga Lorencin-Northrup took my
face to places it had never gone before. Olga smeared citrus
scented soupy concoctions over my face and décolletage,
invigorated my facial muscles with a vibrating tool that is said
to tone and tighten (mini face-lift?), used blue light color-therapy
technology to detoxify my skin, and even graced me with a brief
facial massage! When the mask was rubbed off and the machines
put aside, my skin had gained some severely needed moisture and
radiance. I felt both pampered and enlightened- physically and
mentally.
Not quite ready to face the traffic-filled streets
of LA, I strolled downstairs to (Joachim Splichal's) Kinara café and
sipped a cup of superb butternut squash soup and nibbled onsome
of the best tea sandwiches in town. Before I could assemble the
courage to re-enter the real world, Olga handed me a bag filled
