Nirvana at Kinara. If the word weren’t already so played out,
the creators of a new spa in West Hollywood might easily have called
their venture Synergy. However when veteran restaurateur Christine
Splichal and skincare expert Olga Lorencin-Northrup put their heads
(and talents) together, the result was an oasis they’ve called
Kinara, Hindi for "riverbank." True to its name, Kinara
is one of the most refreshing places to wash up in L.A. in some time.
The two-story space offers a series of high-caliber treatments, a
café where food is far more than an afterthought and a small
boutique filled with unique finds from around the world. The premise – a
purpose-built structure done in clean lines and tropical colors – make
quick work of putting patrons (including regular Halle Berry) at
ease. While still glowing after a custom facial or a body scrub,
many clients enjoy taking a light meal in the sun-kissed café.
Among the not so ascetic offerings are wine and – gasp – even
chocolate cake. Says Splichal, wife of master chef Joachim Splichal
(of L.A.’s Patina), "A restrictive diet is not good for
your skin." Who knew that wellness could be so decadent.
