About Face:
Chocolate Croissant bread pudding is Olga Lorencin-Northrup’s
secret to healthy skin. "Beauty always starts from the inside
out," explains the cofounder of Kinara Spa (310.657.9188,
www.kinaraspa.com), "so sound nutrition comes first." And
at Kinara, nutrition begins with the owner’s favorite dessert
toped with Tahitian vanilla bean custard sauce. The full-service
spa on Los Angeles’ trendy Robertson Boulevard offers custom
massages, hydrotherapy, body scrubs, and specialized facials for
men. "Being a facialist is a lot like being a cook," she
says, "you can have great ingredients, but it’s how
you put them together that matters." Lorencin-Northrup’s
business partner and former client Christine Splichal, applies
the same philosophy in the Kinara kitchen. Splichal’s husband,
famed Patina chef Joachim Splichal, designed the Kinara Café menu
using ingredients intended to please the palate and benefit the
skin. The fare includes a hearty butternut squash soup accented
with toasted pumpkin seeds and a decadent flourless chocolate hazelnut
cake.
