Confessions of a Naughty Esthetician
For most of us, flawless skin is a full time job. There is, of course, that rare breed of woman who washes her face with only water, doesn’t appear to have any pores and finds makeup only detracts from her natural glow. I, however, am not that woman. As an esthetician I’ve spent years not only working towards perfecting the skin of others, but perfecting my own as well. And then, eventually, it happened. Well, not perfection, but I had found my skin balance. After a healthy dose of long standing consistency, excellent products and regular facials, my skin reached its peak. Success was mine! I could even leave the house without a stich of makeup and not scare the children.
I lived in this state of skin bliss for quite some time. Until, well, I got a little overconfident. I forgot all about my hard work and began thinking the healthy skin I’d achieved was now a given. I started cutting corners. When products that once were staples in my home began to run out, I didn’t replace them. I’m going to level with you, there were even a few times I didn’t wash my face before I went to bed. The horror! Before I knew it my skin was reflecting my bad habits. I wore more makeup to cover my lack of luminosity but that only made things worse. It was time to get back on track. And that’s exactly what I did. It took a little time, but a few serious facials and one great home care regimen later, and sure enough, my skin remembered its own version of perfection.
Skin care is my job, but I’m only human and bad habits are easy to fall into. Just remember the importance of getting back on track and keeping motivation. My latest motivation: My family’s holiday photos. It may not be the Red Carpet, but hey, I still want to look good!
