There is a myriad of healthy antioxidant foods on one’s plate today – green
leafy vegetables, berries, wild Alaskan Salmon etc. But here are
some that are less known, and definitely at the top of the list on Kinara’s menu.
According to Olga Lorencin-Northrup, skin care expert and co-founder of Kinara
Skin Care Clinic, Spa and Cafe, these super-foods go beyond traditional
spa cuisine into the realm of anti-aging, not to mention their extreme
benefits to your skin and overall health.
Tibetan Goji Berries are almost completely unknown to the West, yet
has been prized for its anti-aging and healing properties in the East for
centuries. In fact, Many Tibetans credit the berries as the secret to their
longevity; those living past 100 years old in the culture are not uncommon.
The Goji Berry is considered one of the most nutritionally rich foods
on the planet. These delicate berries contain 19 amino acids, 21 trace
minerals, (including zinc, germanium, calcium, selenium, phosphorus and
many others) Vitamin C (500 times by weight than oranges), Vitamin B1,
B2, B6, Vitamin E, Essential Fatty Acids, polysaccharides, and other nutrients.
The widely-recognized benefits associated with consuming the berries
include; advanced anti-oxidant properties, stimulates secretion of Human
Growth Hormone, increased energy, healthy blood pressure, reduction of
cholesterol, promotion of healthy blood sugar levels, enhanced sexual function
and treatment of sexual dysfunction, strengthens muscles and bones, strengthens
the heart, supports healthy liver function, improves memory, alleviates
anxiety and stress, improves fertility, and even aids in weight loss,
Hemp Seed Nut is almost as nutritionally sound, but Olga likes
it primarily because the nut is the best source of the essential
fatty acids
Omega-3 Linolenic Acid and Omega-6 Linoleic Acid, as well as Gamma-Linoleic
Acid. While most foods have little if any, Hemp Seed Nut is over
36% essential fatty acids and in Nature’s perfect balance. It contains
31% complete and highly digestible protein (second only to soybean),
and is high in
vitamins and minerals.
Additionally, it has almost as much protein as soybean but more digestible
and of higher quality, similar to egg whites.
EFAs do not function as energy sources, but as raw materials for
cell structure and as precursors for the synthesis of many of the
body’s regulatory biochemicals necessary for almost every
body process. EFAs help carry off toxins from the skin, kidneys,
lungs
and intestinal tract. They also create energy within cells by carrying
oxygen from red blood cells into them.
Foods rich in EFAs reduce the risk of heart disease and reduce the
blood clots that cause heart attacks and strokes, control cholesterol
levels, and lower blood pressure. As EFAs have natural anti-inflammatory
properties, they can also help with conditions such as arthritis
and autoimmune disorders.
Kinara incorporates Goji
Berries in a delicious salad of baby arugula
with Israeli couscous, Fuji apple, toasted walnuts, golden raisins,
mint and goat cheese, as well as Kinara’s own Goji
Berry trail
mix with toasted walnuts, almonds, golden raisins and hemp seed nut.
Hemp Seed Nut is also side dish that can be added to salads or soups,
and is featured in Kinara Café’s popular three course
anti-aging menu, and is added to the green asparagus soup and the
organic spinach salad that accompanies the wild salmon main course.
Additionally,
both can be purchased at Kinara to enjoy at home. An 18 oz bag
